This specimen was lot 31853 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spanish Netherlands: Brabant. Philip IV 2 Patagons 1648 AU55 NGC, Brussels mint. A weighty selection bearing a date that is unlisted in both Davenport and Delmonte. With a beautiful cabinet patina and much detail visible on the obverse devices, the piece boasts an exceptional state of preservation for the type, which is normally witnessed with a much cruder strike." The regular patagon (KM 53.1/Dav-4462) was struck at Brussels 1622-65. The SCWC makes no mention of a double patagon and they must be rare, as this is the first we have posted on this site.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 56.5 g, 0.875 silver, this specimen 56.07 g.

Catalog reference: KM-Unl., cf. Dav-4461 (date unlisted), cf. Delm-295a (R1) (date unlisted).
