This specimen was lot 626 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €440 (about US$572 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AR ducaton, 1633, Bruxelles. Premier type. D/ B. cuirassé à d., une grande fraise au col. R/ Ecu couronné, tenu par deux lions. Ducatons were issued in the Spanish Netherlands and associated states (including the bishopric of Liège and Franche Comte) during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, where they competed with French écus, German talers and Dutch daalders and patagons. The type shown here was struck at the Antwerp mint (hand mintmark) and at Brussels (angel face mintmark, shown here) 1624, 1631-36 . A very similar coin was struck for Flanders (Dav-4446). The series is plagued by bad planchets and poor strikes, but less so than the patagons.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 32.48 g, 0.944 fine silver, this specimen 32,38 g.
