The first specimen shown was lot 1316 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 963 euros (about US$1,589 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1788/7. Potosí. PR. 4 escudos. (Cal. 372 var). Rectificación de fecha muy clara y no reseñada en Krause. Hojitas. Bonito color. Muy rara. MBC-/MBC+. (Charles III, 1759-88, four escudos of 1788, Potosi mint, obvious overdate not listed in Krause. Marks, good color, very rare very fine.)

This type was issued from Potosi 1778-88; all dates are rare. The second specimen was lot 843 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $5,100. The catalog description[2] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, gold bust 4 escudos, Charles III, 1788/7 PR, very rare, NGC AU 53, finest known in NGC census. Clear overdate (unlisted in all references except for Janson) in a year with very low mintage (just 437 coins), strong luster, just some light high-point wear."
