This specimen was lot 75085 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $244. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. 2 Reales, 1788-PTS PR. Potosi Mint. Charles III. PCGS AU-53. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck in Bolivia 1773-89. Assayer PR served 1776-95. Harris[2] notes that Potosi two reales of Charles III are fairly common, with about five-eighths as many reported as Mexico City. In 1786, the alloy was slightly debased, from 0.903 to 0.896 fine.
