This specimen was lot 70682 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 3 Mark, 1908-D. Munich Mint. Otto. NGC MS-63. This wholly original looking example displays beautiful rich patina over lustrous surfaces." This type was struck 1908-13. It superseded the vereinsthaler which had been allowed to circulate after unification. The kingdom was abolished with the collapse of the Empire in 1918.
