Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70754

This specimen was lot 70754 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 3 Mark, 1908-A. Berlin Mint. Wilhelm II. NGC MS-66. This wholly original looking example exhibits bold crisp devices with smooth satiny surfaces displaying lovely light mottled patina." This type was struck 1908-12 and is common. It superseded the pre-unification thalers which had been allowed to continue to circulate.

Specification: 16.67 g, 0.900 fine silver, .479 troy oz ASW, 33 mm diameter.
