This specimen was lot 896 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY: Kaiserreich, AE 25 pfennig, 1908-D, a Goetz pattern with crowned eagle portrait, a superb extremely lustrous specimen example! PCGS graded Specimen 65 RB, ex Almer H. Orr III Collection." A profusion of patterns exist for this denomination in 1908, suggesting an organized contest. The actual coin which went into production (KM 25) was nickel and a much tamer design than that shown here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.32 g, copper, 23 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-X6, Kienast-78 I.3, Schaaf-18/G31.
