This specimen was lot 70685 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $110. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 2 Mark, 1908-D. Munich Mint. Otto. NGC MS-63. Bright and lustrous, this choice uncirculated example displays frosty devices and satiny surfaces with a hint of mottled patina." This is a common date of a common type struck in 1891-1908, 1912-1913. It superseded the gulden from before unification. The kingdom was abolished with the collapse of the Empire in 1918.
