This specimen was lot 22580 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. Taler, 1778-H ST. Munich Mint. Karl Theodor. PCGS Genuine--Repaired, AU Details Gold Shield. Moderately cleaned at one time with deep tone now settled around portions of the edges on both sides. No evidence of the noted repair is immediately visible inside the PCGS holder." This type was struck at Munich 1778-82 and is common. It is contemporary with Dav-1959 (1778-95, Mannheim mint), Dav-1964 (1778-83), Dav-1965 (1778-94), and Dav-1967 (1778-79, Amberg mint). It is nearly identical to Dav-1964 except for the position of the Maltese cross on the elector's uniform.
