Bavaria 1781-I.SCH thaler Dav-1965
This specimen was lot 34012 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Bavaria. Karl Theodor Taler 1781-I.SCH AU58 NGC, Munich mint. A bold and desirable taler with prominent, yet not unusual, adjustment marks on the Madonna and Child. The fields emit a considerable amount of white, glassy light that create a singular level of eye-appeal." This type was struck 1778-94 at Munich. Another common thaler, Dav-1959, was struck 1778-95 at Mannheim in the Palatinate. Other thalers for 1781 include Dav-1957, Dav-1958, Dav-1960, Dav-1963 and Dav-1964.
