Sincona sale 91, lot 3055

This specimen was lot 3055 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$400 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1622, Basel. Die Jahreszahl geschrieben als 16ZZ. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, thaler of 1622, Basel mint, with the date engraved as 16ZZ. Good very fine.)"

The city issued three different thalers in 1622: KM 67/Dav-4603 (basilisks supporting arms/eagle), KM 79.1/Dav-4604 (city arms in quadrilobe, shown here) and KM 80 (klippe).

Recorded mintage: unknown.
