The first specimen was lot 32264 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $2,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland: Basel. City gold Goldgulden (Ducat) 1622 VF25 NGC, A moderately circulated representative of this difficult type with mahogany and amber tones that cling to the devices in an emboldening fashion. A small flan crack is noted at 1 o'clock but does not extend far into the flan. Sold with old collector's ticket. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." The second specimen was lot 4037 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$6,584 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Goldgulden 1622, Basel. Stadtwappen auf einem Kreuz, oben im Feld die Jahreszahl. Rv. Nimbierter Doppeladler. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Feine Goldpatina. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, goldgulden of 1622, Basel mint. Obverse: city arms over a cross, date in the field; reverse: nimbate double headed eagle. Rare in this condition, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Nice gold toning.)"

This type was struck 1621-23 and accompanied a double goldgulden (Fr-20, unique) and an undated goldgulden (Fr-22, very rare).

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 3.17 g.
