Sincona sale 91, lot 3054

This specimen was lot 3054 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 650 CHF (about US$872 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Taler 1621, Basel. Grosser Baslerstab, eingefasst von der Jahreszahl 16 - 21, umgeben von einer Bogeneinfassung. Rv. Einfacher Adler nach links. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Randschlag. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 52, Zürich, September 2001, Los 574. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, thaler of 1621, Basel mint. obverse: large city arms divide the date, arched border around; reverse: plain eagle facing left. Very rare, Basel mint. Very fine, Edge nick.)"

The city issued four different thalers in 1621: KM 66/Dav-4601 (city arms in arched border, shown here), KM A66/Dav-4599 (city arms in rope circle), KM 67/Dav-4603 (city arms supported by basilisks) and KM 68 (klippe).
