Basel 1622 12 kreuzer KM-75
This specimen was lot 4039 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,713 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Basel, Stadt und Kanton, Halbdicken 1622, Basel. Eingebuchtetes Wappen zwischen 16 - 22, eingefasst von einer teilweise unterbrochenen Bogenkreisverzierung und einem inneren Schnurkreis. Rv. Nimbierter Doppeladler mit der Wertzahl 12 (Kreuzer) auf der Brust. Innerer Schnurkreis. Von grosser Seltenheit und hervorragender Erhaltung. Gutes sehr schön. Das Stück soll aus Sammlung E. Grether stammen. (Switzerland, canton of Basel, half dicken of 1622, Basel mint. Obverse: indented coat of arms divides the date, circle of pearls around; reverse: nimbate double-headed eagle with the value on its breast, circle of pearls around. Of high rarity and extremely rare condition, Good Very Fine.)"
This type comes in several varieties, This one has the date divided by arms; another (KM 76) has the date in the legend at top. Half a dicken made twelve kreuzer or 2/15 of a thaler.
