Sincona sale 11, lot 2391

This specimen was lot 2391 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 420 CHF (about US$520 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR/ÖSTERREICH Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916. Taler 1854, Wien. Vorzüglich-gutes vorzüglich. (Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, thaler of 1854, Vienna mint, extremely fine.)"

This intermediate type was struck 1852-56 and is scarcer than preceding (Dav-14, 28.06 g) and succeeding types (Dav-21, 18.52 g).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 25.99 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter, this specimen 25.98 g.
