Sincona sale 39, lot 4218

This specimen was lot 4218 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$144 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AUSTRIA, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916 10 Kreuzer 1854 A. Wien. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, ten kreuzer of 1854, Vienna mint. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1852-55 at Vienna and Kremnitz. Older types were 3.89 g, 0.500 fine, but contained the same amount of silver. Before 1857, 120 kreuzer made a thaler. The last ten kreuzer was struck in 1872.

Specification: 2.16 g, 0.900 fine, 18 mm diameter, this specimen 2.17 g.
