Sincona sale 39, lot 4212

This specimen was lot 4212 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"AUSTRIA, Franz Joseph I. 1848-1916 20 Kreuzer 1852 A. Wien Kopf nach links. FDC. (empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, twenty kreuzer of 1852, Vienna mint, head to left. Uncirculated.)"

The twenty kreuzer shown here was struck in 1852 at Vienna and Prague. A redesigned type (KM 2211, bust right) was struck 1852-56 at four mints. It was 4.32 g, 0.900 fine silver, and had the same amount of silver. The "bust right" type is common in all grades.

Recorded mintage: unknown but slightly scarce.

Specification: 6.68 g, 0.583 fine silver, .125 troy oz ASW, 26 mm diameter, this specimen 6.68 g.
