Sincona sale 39, lot 4068

This specimen was lot 4068 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780 Konventionstaler 1780. Karlsburg Mit A.H.-G.S. beim Adler. Gutes sehr schön. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, convention thaler of 1780, Karlsburg mint, with 'AH-GS' by the eagle. Good very fine.)"

This one year type is very similar to the famous "Maria Theresia" thaler struck in the hundreds of millions. This one, however, is a product of the Karlsburg mint in Hungary.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, .751 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 27.26 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1866.3, Herinek 558. Dav-1146.
