Künker Auction 441, lot 4879

This specimen was lot 4879 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,027 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Joseph II., 1765-1790. Konv.-Taler 1780 A/IC-FA, Wien. RR Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines sächsischen Naturwissenschaftlers. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, convention thaler of 1780, Vienna mint. Very rare, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"

On the death of Francis of Lorraine in 1765, his and Maria Theresia's son was crowned emperor Joseph II tho Maria Theresia remained the boss until her death in 1780. This type of 1773-80 is common.
