Künker sale 335, lot 4752

This specimen was lot 4752 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €60 (about US$79 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH. Karl VI. 1711-1740. 3 Kreuzer 1713, München, geprägt während der Reichsbesetzung im Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg. Geharnischtes Brustbild r. mit Lorbeerkranz, umgelegtem Mantel und der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, am Arm Wertzahl 3 in Kartusche//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, auf der Brust zweifeldiges Wappen, unten Münzzeichen Stern, oben die geteilte Jahreszahl 17 - 13. R Min. justiert, sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung Eberhard Link. Exemplar der Lagerliste Münzen und Medaillen AG 270, Basel 1966, Nr. 622. (Holy Roman Empire, Charles VI, 1711-40, 1713 three kreuzer of 1713, Munich mint, struck while under Austrian occupation. Obverse: armored, laureate and mantled bust right with Order of the Golden Fleece; reverse: crowned double headed eagle with shield on its breast and sword and scepter in its claws, date below. Scarce, some adjustment marks, very fine.)"

This type was struck in Munich 1712-14 while the Austrians occupied Bavaria. By the Treaty of Utrecht in 1714, the Austrians returned Bavaria to its former lord, the elector Maximilian II Emanuel.
