Austria 1604 3 kreuzer KM-42
This specimen was lot 3140 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$298 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Rudolf II. 1576-1612. 3 Kreuzer 1604, Hall. Groschen der 2. Gruppe mit der Wertzahl unten auf der Rückseite und Schriftkreis auf der Vorder- und Rückseite. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, three kreuzer of 1604, Hall mint. A groschen of the second group with the value on the reverse. Rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"
The three kreuzer was probably the most extensively minted small coin in the Hapsburg monarchy in the seventeenth century. For Rudolf II, the SCWC lists KM 15 (Graz, 1601), 16 (Klagenfurt, 1601-19), 17 (Vienna, 1601-10), 32 (Graz, 1602-17), 41 (Hall, 1603), 42 (Hall, 1603-04, shown here), 43.1 (Hall, 1603, 1605), 43.2 (Hall, 1605) and KM 91 (Vienna, 1608).
