Austria 1603 1/4 thaler
This specimen was lot 1386 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,428 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Rudolf II. 1576-1612. 1/4 Taler 1603, Hall. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS61. Herrliche Patina. (Holy Roman Empire, Rudolf II, 1576-1612, quarter thaler of 1603, Hall mint. Very rare, especially in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Most attractively toned.)"
This rather scarce type seems to have been struck only in 1603-04. It was accompanied by a half thaler, also from Hall.
