Augsburg 1627 2/3 thaler KM-49
This specimen was lot 1201 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,650 CHF (about US$2,393 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "DEUTSCHLAND Augsburg, Stadt, 2/3 Reichstaler (Gulden) 1627, Augsburg. Mit Titel Ferdinands II. Stadtansicht. Selten in dieser Erhaltung, Prachtexemplar. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Germany, city of Augsburg, two-thirds thaler or gulden of 1627, Augsburg mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Obverse: city view. Rare in this condition. NGC MS61. Cabinet piece, Finest certified by NGC.)" This year also saw the issue of KM 40 (arms obverse/eagle reverse). This was several decades before the fad for gulden spread in the 1670's.
