Augsburg 1627 thaler Dav-5029
This specimen was lot 3129 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Augsburg, Stadt, Taler 1627. Mit Titel Ferdinands II. Attraktives vorzügliches Exemplar. Randfehler. Feine Patina. (Germany, city of Augsburg, thaler of 1627, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Attractive extremely fine specimen, Edge nicks, Nice toning.)"
The city of Augsburg issued numerous thalers in the 1620's, enough to make them common today. This particular one is slightly better than Dav-5028 or -5035. A double thaler (Dav-5030) also exists. The ravages of the Thirty Years War ended the town's prosperity.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 28.18 g.
