Amecameca (1915) 5 centavos
This specimen was lot 2404 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico: Mexico State. 5 Centavos, ND NGC EF40. Eagle above RM. Hand stamped. Amecameca, revolutionary coinage. Very Scarce. The solo highest grade coin in NGC Census, and the only XF example graded for the type so far. NGC graded EF-40." The Amecameca coinage, issued by the Zapatistas, is the crudest of the Revolution. It ranges from this brass five centavos up to fifty centavos. As might be expected from hand stamped coinage, no two are alike. The twenty and twenty-five centavos are the most available.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 12.77 g, Brass, 24.6 mm diameter.
