Amecameca (1915) 50 centavos

Goldberg sale 93, lot 2407

This specimen was lot 2407 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $540.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico: Mexico State. 50 Centavos, ND NGC MS61 BR. Amecameca. Revolutionary coinage. The solo highest grade coin in NGC Census, and the only Mint State example graded for the type so far. NGC graded MS-61 Brown." The Amecameca coinage, issued by the Zapatistas, is the crudest of the Revolution. It ranges from a brass five centavos up to this fifty centavos. As might be expected from hand stamped coinage, no two are alike. The twenty and twenty-five centavos are the most available.
