Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72181
SB1123-72181r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72181 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Estado de Mexico - Amecameca. Copper 25 Centavos, ND (1915). PCGS AU-50. Slightly rough but rather crisp with little evidence of circulation. Glossy black surfaces give this crude Revolutionary type added presence." This denomination was struck in copper (most common), brass and even silver. It is likely the local revolutionaries struck coins from whatever metal they could get their hands on.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.32-6.99 g, copper.

Catalog reference: KM-685; GB-252.
