Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70705

This specimen was lot 70705 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hamburg. 2 Mark, 1901-J. Hamburg Mint. NGC MS-62. A nice, original Mint State piece from the city of Hamburg in Northern Germany. Showcasing rather consistent olive tone and a distinctive absence of contact marks or other distractions that can be seen at this grade level." This type is common and was struck 1892-93, 1896-1914. The Hamburg mint is still in operation, striking coins for the Federal Republic of Germany.
