Austria (1564-95) thaler Dav-8100
This specimen was lot 3819 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$360 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Erzherzog Ferdinand II. 1564-1595 Taler o. J. Hall Mit AVSRIAE. Gutes sehr schön. Hübsche Patina. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand II, 1564-95, undated thaler, Hall, with AVSRIAE in obverse legend. Good very fine. Attractive patina.)"
Davenport notes a considerable number of thalers and multiple thalers struck for the archduke, Dav-8088 thru Dav-8103, all without dates. None are rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown but reasonably common.
