Sincona sale 39, lot 3804

This specimen was lot 3804 in Sincona sale 39 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$960 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA, Ferdinand I. 1521-1564 Taler 1561. Joachimsthal. Fast vorzüglich. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1521-64, thaler of 1561, Joachimsthal mint. About extremely fine.)"

Davenport notes this type for 1558-61. Altho minted by and for the Austrian emperor, it is a product of Bohemia.

Recorded mintage: unknown but reasonably common.
