Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 412

This specimen was lot 412 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €460 (about US$607 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"1836. Isabel II. Segovia. 4 maravedís. Único año de ceca y valor en reverso. Mínima manchita. Muy bella. Brillo original. Ex Colección Isabel de Trastámara 29/10/2015, nº 729. Ex Colección Manuela Etcheverría. Rara. S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, four maravedis of 1836, Segovia mint. The only year with the mintmark and the value on the reverse. Tiny bite, very handsome, original luster, rare, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in Jubia, Segovia and Madrid 1835-36 and was accompanied by copper one, two and eight maravedis. The reverse legend was modified in 1836 to read "REYNA DE LAS ESPANAS" and struck in that form until 1855.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.

Specification: copper, 6.05 g, 22.0-24.5 mm diameter, this specimen 5,16 g.
