Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 51382
SB421-51382r.jpg

This specimen was lot 51382 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA. Bimetallic 25 Yuan, 1994. Panda Series. NGC PROOF-70 Ultra Cameo. A 1/4 Ounce Gold Core with 1/8 Ounce Silver Ring, this flawless example features brilliant fields and supremely frosted devices. One of just six in the NGC census at this lofty, insurmountable designation."

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This bimetallic type proved unpopular and was abandoned after a few years.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7.78 g, 0.125 troy oz silver plus 0.250 troy oz gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-B52; KM-626; PAN-222a.
