This specimen was lot 73442 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1856-EM. Ekaterinburg Mint. Alexander II. NGC MS-63 Brown. This choice, deep brown example presents intense vibrancy and brilliance, with a color that verges upon violet." This type was struck at Ekaterinburg and Warsaw (KM Y3.2) 1855-60. The Warsaw issues are considerably scarcer than the Ekaterinburg product. The Ekaterinburg mint closed in 1876. The specification given here is from Numista; the 4 g standard in the SCWC is wrong.

Recorded mintage: 10,641,000.

Specification: 5.12 g, copper, 22.8 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM Y3.1.
