Sincona sale 83, lot 3518

This specimen was lot 3518 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,275 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSLAND, 5 Roubles 1856, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB AG. Extremely fine-uncirculated." This type was struck 1855-58 in considerable numbers yet is scarce in choice condition. Proofs exist.

Recorded mintage: 3,800,000.

Specification: 6.54 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 6.52 g.
