This specimen was lot 22306 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. Franc, 1811-D. Lyon Mint. NGC MS-62. A difficult piece to obtain in condition this choice. Well preserved with nearly full luster, only broken by a bit of slide friction on the high points. Minimal contact marks add to its appealing nature. Some adjustment marks on rims. Light champagne toning." This date, from a type struck 1809-14, is priced about 2½ times the common date (1811-A).

Recorded mintage: 241,875[1].

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
