Bohemia 1713 1/2 thaler KM-668
This specimen was lot 4602 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €550 (about US$722 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Karl VI. 1711-1740. 1/2 Reichstaler 1713, Kuttenberg. Ausbeute der Kuttenberger Gruben. R Feine Patina, sehr schön +. (Austria, Charles VI, 1711-40, half thaler of 1713, Kuttenberg mint, for the mines. Rare, fine patina, very fine or better.)"
The SCWC divides this issue into two types: KM 667 (1713-16) and KM 668 (inner circle added, 1713-17), shown here. Charles was the younger brother of Joseph I and was not expected to inherit the imperial throne. As such, he was put forward as the rival candidate of Philip V for the Spanish crown. His brother's unexpected death in 1711 made him the Holy Roman Emperor and his anti-French allies quickly lost interest in placing him on the Spanish throne.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 11,13 g.
