Künker sale 353, lot 4005

This specimen was lot 4005 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €650 (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1797-1840. Die Münzstätte Glatz. 4 Groschen (1/6 Taler) 1808, G. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. Erworben am 10.2.1984 von Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. Frankfurt/Main. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William III, 1797-1840, four groschen or one-sixth thaler of 1808, Glatz mint. Scarce in this quality, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1797-1809 and this is a fairly scarce date. The Glatz mint operated while Breslau, the site of the regular mint, was under French occupation.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: KM 370, AKS 23; J. 27; Olding 121.
