Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 23311

This specimen was lot 23311 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 50 Dollars, 2012. BRILLIANT PROOF. An ultra-high relief Proof featuring a bust of the Queen with mirrored fields and frosty devices. Sold with original display case and certificate of authenticity #306/500." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this one honoring the queen's diamond jubilee.

Specification: 33.17 g, 0.999 fine gold, 30 mm diameter, 1.066 troy oz AGW.
