Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73575

This specimen was lot 73575 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1719-HH. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: crossed axes between HH. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS EF-45. This piece exhibits subdued luster on dove gray surfaces and muted hues of cobalt, russet, and charcoal gray grace the protected areas. A decent strike with only light wear, but with areas of softness noted on both the obverse and reverse. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This wild man thaler was struck 1717-27 and is fairly common.
