This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is common. Assayer JS is recorded for 1876-86; for 1886, 1886/5 and 1886/8 overdates are noted along with assayer FZ (1886-97). None are rare. This specimen was lot 6469 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $126.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 8 Reales, 1886-FZ. Sharply struck, light toning. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."

Recorded mintage: 5,303,000 (all varieties).

Specification: 27.07 g, .903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
