Mexico 1886-Go R 10 centavos

This specimen is a fairly common date of a series struck 1869-97 at the Guanajuato mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. This specimen was lot 8944 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $488.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, “MEXICO. Guanajuato. 10 Centavos, 1886-GoR. NGC MS-66."
