Goldberg sale 103, lot 2517

This specimen was lot 2517 in Goldberg sale 103 (Los Angeles, February 2018), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. Escudo, 1862-Zs VL. Hand on book. Struck at this mint in only three years. Lightly cleaned. Extremely Fine to About Uncirculated." The Zacatecas mint struck this type 1853, 1860 and 1862; the SCWC prices this date only slightly higher than a common Mexico City issue.

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
