Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg 1679-RB thaler Dav-6575
This specimen was lot 954 in Jean Elsen sale 114 (Brussels, September 2012) where it sold for €650 (about US$1,005 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, BRUNSWICK-CALENBERG, Johann Friedrich (1665-1679), AR Taler, 1679 RB, Zellerfeld. Droit: B. drapé à droite, coiffé d'une longue perruque. Revers: EX DURIS GLORIA Un palmier sur un îlot rocheux. Rare. Fines griffes. Petits coups sur la tranche. presque Superbe. (Germany, Brunswick-Calenberg, John Frederick (1665-79), silver thaler of 1679, Zellerfeld mint. Obverse: armored bust to right with large wig; reverse: legend 'EX DURIS GLORIA', a palm tree springs from a rocky islet. Rare, fine scratches, small rim nicks, nearly extremely fine.)"
