This specimen was lot 4202 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $1,035. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Brunswick-Lüneburg. Taler, 1681-RB. Ernst August, 1679-1698. Wildman against landscape. Reverse: Helmeted arms. Toned. NGC graded In jumbo holder, AU-50." The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
