SB124-58590 rev.jpg

This specimen was lot 58590 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Umm Al Qaiwain. 5 Riyals, AH 1389/1970. NGC PROOF-66 Ultra Cameo. KM-3. Attractively toned." Umm Al Qaiwain only issued coins in 1969-71 and all are NCLT's. Several species of gazelles live in Arabia; we don't know which one is honored here. All are declining or endangered under human pressure. The sheikdom joined the United Arab Emirates and coinage ceased.

Recorded mintage: 2,100 proofs.

Specification: 15 g, 0.999 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Fr-4; KM-8.
