Sincona sale 67, lot 4168

This specimen was lot 4168 in Sincona sale 67 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 90 CHF (about US$119 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN | Qajar Dynasty | Nâsir al-dîn Shâh, 1264-1313 H./1848-1896 AD, Machine struck coinage, always with the mint name Tihrân, silver coins. 1/4 Qiran 1311 H. Titles and name in wreath, mint below, rev. lion and sun above value in wreath, date to the sides of the lion. Rare variety. Very fine."

This is the first date of a type struck AH 1311-1313. It was about the size of a half dime. Another type exists for AH 1311 (KM 892), with the date below the lion.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.15 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 1.16 g.
