Sincona sale 97, lot 1143, small date

The first specimen was lot 1142 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zurich, May 2025), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$218 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA Volksrepublik. 5 Yuan 1990, Shanghai Mint. Panda. Grosse Jahreszahl. FDC. In Originalverschweissung. (Peoples Republic of China, five yuan of 1990, Shanghai mint, panda series, Large date, Mint State, In original capsule.)" The second specimen was lot 1143 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zurich, May 2025), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$174 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA Volksrepublik. 5 Yuan 1990, Shenyang Mint. Panda. Kleine Jahreszahl. FDC. In Originalverschweissung. (Peoples Republic of China, five yuan of 1990, Shanghai mint, panda series, Small date, Mint State, In original capsule.)" Other five yuan for 1990 included KM 42, 43, 44, 262, 263, A263, A264, 310, 311, 312, 313, KM 315, 322, 323, 324. China's deluge of NCLT's was well underway in 1990. Many of the early ones sold poorly and are now scarce.

Recorded mintage: 348,246 plus 5,000 proofs.

Specifications: 1.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.050 troy oz AGW.
