Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 33144

This specimen was lot 33144 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Bimetallic 50 Yuan, 1990. Panda Series. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. On the cusp of flawlessness, with no trace of haze or toning." This experimental bimetallic panda was not repeated. Other fifty yuan issues for 1990 include KM 271, KM 273, KM 279, KM 284, KM 297, KM 326, KM 327, KM 328, KM 329 and KM 330.

Recorded mintage: 2,000.

Specification: center: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW; ring: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine silver, 0.500 troy oz ASW.
