Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 57364
SB124-57364 rev.jpg

This specimen was lot 57364 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). Giulio, Year VIII (1708). Rome Mint. Clement XI. PCGS MS-62." This type was struck years IV thru IX (1704-09). The giulio was one tenth of a scudo. The reverse motto is taken from Deuteronomy 7:25, "The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the Lord thy God." The very similar Ber-2414 (also KM 669) lacks the engraver's initials and has a star at the top of the reverse instead of an angel face.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.05 g, 0.917 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Ber-2413, KM-669.
