This specimen was lot 1923 in Jean Elsen sale 155 (Brussels, June 2023), where it sold for €120 (about US$157 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Clément XI (1700-1721), (Gianfrancesco Albani), AR giulio, 1704, an 4, Rome. Très Beau. (Papal States, Clement XI, 1700-21, silver guilio of 1704, year 4, Rome mint. Very Fine.)"
The giulio was ten baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone). Three different giulii are recorded for 1704; the others bear mottoes reading, "NON/CONCVPISCES/ARGENTVM" (KM 669) or "IM/SVDORE/VVLTVS/TVI" (KM 660). The reverse motto comes from Proverbs 23:4, "noli laborare ut diteris sed prudentiae tuae pone modum" = "Labor not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
